Overall, though, I quite like the Ultimate Evil Edition on next-gen consoles.

As things stand now, playing on the Vita via PS4 streaming requires you to have the eyes of a hawk to discern the user interface for the game. For the PS4 version, I also wish more thought was given to crossplay on the Vita. This often causes a comical race toward blacksmith Haedrig after each dungeon run between my cousins and I as whoever gets to salvage and craft first can also quickly move on to doing other things in life - like fix a sandwich in the kitchen.

That would be the ability to just open one menu at a time, which pauses the game for everyone else. Can't round up enough real-life friends at your place? The good news is that online play also is still available if you don't have amigos to hang out with in your house.Īt the same time, my main gripe about the console versions is still present in the Ultimate Evil Edition. I actually got three cousins who had no interest in Diablo whatsoever hooked on the game because of this. Consoles also have up to four-player couch co-op play on one system, allowing you to spread the love around.

Although the PC version now also enjoys a revamped loot system, it still doesn't have the option to dodge roll, which remains an exclusive feature on consoles. The Ultimate Evil Edition also retains the exclusive features from consoles that made them my preferred system for playing Diablo III over the PC. Granted it still won't beat the looks of Diablo III on a souped-up computer but it's still quite good. The game feels smoother and you definitely get a lot more detail on the PS4, which provides graphics that are closer to the quality seen on the PC version. Instead, I'll be focusing on how the next-gen edition compares to the PC and current-gen consoles. Given that I already reviewed Diablo III on PC and Playstation 3, and even interviewed game designer Kevin Martens for an article about the additions and changes in the Reaper of Souls expansion, I'm not going to go into the minutiae of the game. Sadly, cross saving is not available from PC to console so I still had to start from scratch to use the new Crusader class on my PS4. Heck, you can even export saves between Sony and Microsoft systems. That made me just about as happy as Deckard Cain in a beard-grooming contest. Still, after starting my favorite characters from scratch twice on the PC and on the console, I wasn't really looking forward to repeating the process again on a next-gen system like the PlayStation 4.įortunately, Blizzard added a cross save ability between the various consoles so I was able to import my characters from the PS3.

Now as someone who quite liked Diablo III on the PlayStation 3 and even the PC version after the arrival of the revamped loot system, I've spent quite a bit of time playing this game.

These include a new boss, the Angel of Death Malthael, as well as a new character class in the form of the Crusader. The console version of the "Reaper of Souls" expansion for the PC, Diablo III's Ultimate Evil Edition brings the game's latest goodies to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well. The devils that you know make it to next-generation consoles for the first time as "Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition" descends on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
